Headless In-Plant Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (IP-SPMT) are ideally suited to work in tandem, where two, three, four, or more multiaxle transporter are driven under a single column- or stand-supported load. They are positioned to be in-line, parallel, and perpendicular to each other. Each transporter has a laser transmitter on one side and a laser reflector on the other side. The lasers accurately measure the center-to-center distances between transporter and relay that information to the transporter that has been chosen to be the “Master Controller.” The SynchroSteer® computer then computes all of the geometry to precisely assure that every axle is either parallel for straight line travel. OR, every axle is turned to point to a floating center point that responds to the operator’s movement of the joystick controller. All of the transporters are now acting as one, with only the weight of the load connecting them together. The massive load is now completely omni directional and can move anywhere, in any direction. |
